UFC 231: Holloway vs Ortega
Holloway wins by doctor's stoppage (eye), R4 5:00
Holloway dominated the entire fight, setting a UFC record for most significant strikes landed in one contest. He looked calm, loose and relaxed. Ortega had no answer for him on the feet and could not get Max to the ground when he tried. Ortega landed a few shots that seemed to rock Max in the early part of the third round, but Max recovered and finished the frame strong. Ortega took a beating for 20 minutes but showed the heart of a champion and the chin of legends. His eye was severely swollen by the end of the fourth, causing the doctor to stop the fight in between rounds. I expected Max to land some good shots on T-City, but I thought he would get caught with a counter that would change the complexity of the fight in T-City's favor. That shot never came, and Max retains the 145-pound belt in highly impressive fashion.
Max strengthens his case as the best featherweight in UFC history *cough cough still Aldo* and eyes a move up to lightweight. Rematches with Conor McGregor or Dustin Poirier are possibilities, along with fresh matchups against Tony Ferguson or Khabib. His next fight will surely be must-watch. T-City suffers his first professional defeat but gains a ton of respect for his grit and toughness in the process. Still in his prime, he will definitely work his way back into contention in 2019.
